SNP CANDIDATE BACKS POWER2010 CAMPAIGN

SNP Candidate for Glasgow South, Malcolm Fleming, had today (Friday)
backed the Power2010 campaign to clean up and reform politics.

Mr Fleming joined activists from the campaign group to take the message to
Glasgow South voters in his home community of Shawlands.

Power2010 have identified six sitting MPs who have done the most to “block
democratic reform and attack our civil liberties.” The only Scottish MP is
the current Labour MP for Glasgow South, Tom Harris.

Glasgow South is a two-horse race between the SNP and Labour. In 2007 the
SNP came less than 1,800 votes behind Labour across the Glasgow South
area. In the 2009 Euro Elections the SNP beat Labour in Glasgow South by
741 votes.

Commenting Malcolm Fleming said:

"Like many other local people, I am scunnered by the arrogance shown by
MPs like Tom Harris, who despite all of the scandal of the last year,
still don’t seem to see the need for change and instead seek to protect
their cosy Westminster club.

"The SNP has long supported many of the pledges that this campaign promotes.

"SNP MPs have been outspoken about reforming the House of Lords and the
SNP Westminster Group have led the campaign to ditch ID cards.

"I don't think it will sit well with voters in Glasgow South that the UK
Labour Government have ploughed millions into this pointless project
whilst planning to axe £814m from Scotland's budget.

"If elected as the new MP for Glasgow South I will work to be a national
champion - campaigning for reform of Parliament of the kind outlined by
the Power2010 - and a local champion, making Glasgow South's voice heard
at Westminster."
