SNP MSP KENNETH GIBSON'S IDEA COMES TO FRUITION

SNP MSP KENNETH GIBSON'S IDEA COMES TO FRUITION

NAMES OF COMMITTEE ROOMS RELEASED

The Scottish Parliament today confirmed the new names of the Committee rooms in the Parliament complex. The SPCB (Scottish Parliament Corporate Body) decided to rename the rooms, currently only numbered 1 to 6, after SNP MSP Kenneth Gibson wrote to them suggesting the idea.

Gibson hopes that this can now be extended to other areas of the Parliament in the hope that it will give visitors the chance to not only learn about the Scots Parliament, but also a bit about the country’s heritage and culture.

As well as suggesting the idea, Kenneth Gibson also suggested three of the names for the rooms.

Commenting, he said:

“I was delighted that the SPCB took on board my suggestion in the first place, and extremely thankful they took on board three of my suggestions for room names.

“As well as building a future for Scotland in our Parliament we must also recognise Scotland’s history and our place in the world.

“Scotland has a wealth of famous sons and daughters, it’s a shame that we are limited to only six committee rooms. That is why I’m hoping that this idea can be expanded on and more areas of the Parliament can be named after famous Scots, giving the place a greater sense of national identity.

“The Scottish Parliament has thousands of visitors every year, from all across the world – with this, they will not only get a chance to learn about the architecture and the politics of Scotland, but also Scotland’s history – which every Scot should be proud of.”
