IF CLEGG WANTS CLEAN POLITICS HE SHOULD HAND BACK DIRTY MONEY

CASH FOR HONOURS MP CALLS ON CLEGG TO PAY BACK MICHAEL BROWN CASH
LIBDEMS HAVE MORAL RESPONSIBILITY TO RETURN CASH
SNP MP Angus MacNeil has accused Lib Dem Leader Nick Clegg of hypocrisy
for saying he wants to "clean up politics" whilst his party refuses to
return money to investors ripped off by LibDem donor Michael Brown who
gave them a £2.4 million donation in the run up to the 2005 General
Election.
A number of investors are attempting legal moves to secure the return of
the money the LibDems have continually refused to hand back the cash on
the narrow basis of electoral law.
Commenting the SNP MP for Na h-Eileanan an Iar, Angus MacNeil, said;
"This is utter hypocrisy from Nick Clegg. Perhaps electoral law says they
acted in good faith, and I have no doubt that they did that, but the fact
remains that they accepted money from a man who is a convicted fraudster
and which investors claim was stolen.
"They have a moral responsibility to return this cash to its real owners.
No hiding behind electoral law changes that fact.
"The Liberal Democrats must face up to their responsibilities.
"Rather than relying on the Electoral Commission to let them off with it
the Liberal Democrats should show their commitment to clean up politics by
handing this money back to the people it was stolen from.
"Nick Clegg should show some moral judgement and backbone and return the
Liberal Democrats ill-gotten millions to the creditors who were ripped-off
by Michael Brown."
