BOBBIES ON THE BEAT MAKE SCOTLAND’S STREETS SAFER

SNP SURPASS POLICE NUMBERS PLEDGE

SNP MSP Nigel Don today welcomed the news that there are now 1,039 more Police Officers in Scotland than in March 2007, surpassing the SNP’s pledge of 1000 more officers than the previous Labour administration.

The news flies in the face of Alistair Carmichael’s comments last night on Newsnight where he claimed the SNP "can't deliver" on police numbers.

Commenting MSP and Justice committee member, Nigel Don said:

“This is yet another example of the SNP delivering on their promises and making Scotland that stronger, fairer and safer nation we all want to see.

“A record number of bobbies on the beat, along with the SNP Government’s action on tackling crime and record police funding, is boosting Scotland’s local communities.

“Labour leader Iain Gray claimed last year that it would take 13 years to meet this commitment, and Alistair Carmichael just last night said it could not be done. The SNP and Scotland's police have ensured it has been done. There are now 1000 more officers on our streets and proves the SNP are delivering for the people of Scotland.

“While there is always more work to be done, Scotland, under the SNP, is a safer place to live and work. The opposition should admit that the SNP are delivering on their promises and our making a difference the length and breadth of the country.”
