SNP WESTMINSTER LEADER WELCOMES MCDOWALL APPOINTMENT

News that the former chief of the Army in Scotland, Major General David McDowall, is to become an advisor to the Scottish Government on veterans' issues and the welfare of soldiers and their families, has been welcomed by SNP Westminster leader and Defence spokesperson Angus Robertson MP.

Mr Robertson said:

“Major General McDowall brings more than thirty five years of experience and distinguished service to this post – and his appointment clearly underlines how seriously the Scottish Government takes the issue of welfare for our former service personnel.

“He was the only commander in today’s army to have started his career on the bottom rung and it is no surprise that he is now set to assist the Scottish Government improve the lot of veterans and their families.”
