BROWN MUST APPEAR BEFORE CHILCOT AGAIN

BROWN MUST APPEAR BEFORE CHILCOT AGAIN

MILITARY CHIEFS HIT OUT AT BROWN’S EVIDENCE TO CHILCOT

SNP Westminster Leader and Defence Spokesperson, Angus Robertson MP, has
called on Prime Minister Gordon Brown to appear before the Chilcot Inquiry
again – and this time, keep nothing hidden.

Mr Robertson’s call comes as former heads of the armed forces strongly
criticised Gordon Brown's evidence to the Iraq war inquiry yesterday. Lord
Guthrie, Lord Boyce and General Sir Richard Dannatt have all expressed
dissatisfaction with the Prime Minister’s answers in the press today.

Commenting, Mr Robertson said:

“While he may have downplayed his role before the Iraq Inquiry yesterday,
the fact remains, Gordon Brown was the Chancellor who signed the checks
that funded this illegal war.

“As the men on the frontline, these genuine concerns of these defence
chiefs simply cannot be ignored.

“Sir John Chilcot will have to dig deep to uncover the truth about the
decisions which led to the biggest foreign policy disaster in modern times
but his job is made almost impossible if key witnesses such as Gordon
Brown are selective in their evidence.

“The Prime Minister must appear again - and hold nothing back this time.

“For all of those who opposed the Iraq invasion and for the thousands who
lost their lives to it, the real reasons behind this illegal and immoral
war must be known.”
