CALMAN SESSION HIGHLIGHTS LABOUR POWER STRUGGLE.

CALMAN SESSION HIGHLIGHTS LABOUR POWER STRUGGLE.

Speaking after the Scottish Affairs Committee took evidence today (Wednesday) from Sir Kenneth Calman, SNP Constitutional Affairs spokesperson, Pete Wishart MP, said:
“It would be easy to forget that it was the unionist parties that established the Calman Commission given their hostility to Sir Kenneth.
“Westminster Labour’s agenda to return powers to London, and their obsession with the Scottish Government demonstrates why Calman will always struggle to make sense of the tensions within his commission.
“Labour MPs seem more interested in fighting a turf war with Iain Gray than moving Scotland forward. They are completely rattled on the issue of Calman, and completely out of step with Scottish public opinion.

“Sir Kenneth’s interim Report would give damp squibs a bad name and if it’s going to be more of the same, his final report will be a massive disappointment for those looking to extend Holyrood’s powers.
“With Independence moving ahead in the opinion polls and support for Independence rising over the last year, the National Conversation has energised the debate as more and more people see the logic of an Independent Scotland.

“The decision on Scotland’s constitutional future will be made by the people of Scotland.”
