FRASER OF ALLANDER INSTITUTE REPORT BACKS CASE AGAINST CUTS.

FRASER OF ALLANDER INSTITUTE REPORT BACKS CASE AGAINST CUTS.

Commenting on the latest report by the Fraser of Allander Institute on expectations for Scotland during the upcoming recession SNP MSP Brian Adam said;

“This report supports the case being made by the First Minister to Gordon Brown that cutting public spending in Scotland is not the way to solve the recession.

“If the UK’s stimulus package is “too little, too late” then cutting £1 billion from spending in the heart of Gordon Brown’s recession can only make matters worse.

“The Scottish Government’s action to boost the economy has been shown to be valuable but for the Scottish Government to continue to use its influence on the economy it is essential that public spending on goods and infrastructure in Scotland is maintained. Cutting the budget risks choking off any recovery.

“With the full fiscal powers of a real Parliament, including the power to borrow now supported by a clear majority of MSPs in the Parliament, Scotland would be even better placed to respond to the specific needs of Scotland’s economy."
