LIBDEMS TO CUT MAJOR ROAD BUILDING PROJECTS BY 90%

LIBDEMS TO CUT MAJOR ROAD BUILDING PROJECTS BY 90%

MISLEADING LIBDEM CAMPAIGNS LEFT IN TATTERS BY LONDON LEADERSHIP

Commenting on a report in the Telegraph today (Monday) that the LibDems plan to pay for their tax policy by cutting major road building projects by 90% SNP Highlands & Islands MSP Dave Thompson said it left their misleading transport campaigns in the north of Scotland in tatters.

Mr Thompson said:

"This announcement by the LibDem leader Nick Clegg leaves the misleading campaigns run by their party in Inverness and Elgin in tatters. It also confirms what the SNP was warning about when the LibDems announced their plans to cut spending by £20 billion throughout the UK and £800 million in Scotland.

"This latest round of hypocrisy from LibDems has been demands for more funding for the Inverness and Elgin by-passes.

"So how on earth can they fund roads in the north of Scotland - like their uncosted promises to dual the A9 from Tore to Tain - when they plan to cut investment in road building by 90%? It's all the more embarrassing when it is considered that Nick Clegg's 'chief-of-staff' is the MP for Inverness.

"They think they can treat voters like fools by making false promises in the north of Scotland whilst delivering grand policy announcements to cut funding south of the border.

"They failed to deliver any significant advances in improving the infrastructure of the Highlands & Islands when they were in coalition with Labour.

"Instead it is the SNP Government which is already moving to dual the A9, upgrade the A82 and start the Inverness by-pass. We are also moving forward with progressing other major projects.

"If the LibDems think they can take the people of the north of Scotland for fools by saying one thing on the doorstep in the Highlands and another in London they will discover that they have a tendency of punishing them at the ballot box."
