TORY PARTY COOPERATION PLEDGE FOR SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT.
‘CAMERON MUST START BY CURBING CUTS AGENDA’
Speaking today (Sunday), following David Cameron’s pledge to work with the SNP Government in the event of a Conservative Westminster Government, Pete Wishart, SNP MP for Perth and North Perthshire, said:
“Mr Cameron will have to do better than this if he thinks that the people of Scotland have forgiven the Tories.
“The Conservatives at Westminster remain overwhelmingly hostile to the Scottish Parliament and almost trip over each other to promote their anti-Scottish credentials.
“Only this week, there were calls from a series of Tory backbenchers to cut Scottish spending by having Scottish funding reviewed to Scotland’s disadvantage - their obsession with the Barnett formula borders on the perverse.
“It is these anti-Scottish Tories who will form the UK Government in the event of a Conservative election victory.
“If he is serious about real cooperation, Mr Cameron should begin by making clear to his backbench at Westminster that he will have nothing whatsoever to do with their agenda for cutting Scottish spending.
“He should also make clear his support for the right of the people of Scotland to choose their constitutional future.
“Mr Cameron may believe that somehow he can secure democratic legitimacy with a couple of Scottish MPs but he cannot disallow the Scottish people their choice.”
