NEW GLASGOW MSP TO TAKE SCOTTISH PARLIAMENTARY OATH.

NEW GLASGOW MSP TO TAKE SCOTTISH PARLIAMENTARY OATH.

Anne McLaughlin will formally take up her post as MSP for Glasgow following the death of Bashir Ahmad when she takes the Parliamentary oath this morning.

Speaking before she took the oath Ms McLaughlin said;

“As someone who is passionate about Scotland and passionate about Glasgow it will be an honour to serve as MSP for the people of this city.

“Having lived in Glasgow for over 20 years I know what a vibrant place the city can be but I also know the challenges we face in Glasgow and in Scotland and I will work with my colleagues at all levels to meet those challenges.

“Only yesterday the SNP confirmed funds to freeze council tax for three more years and announced 1000 new apprenticeships for young people in the city.

“The SNP Government is cracking down on crime with more police on Glasgow’s streets and is building a lasting legacy for the city with the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014.

“As a Glasgow MSP I will join my SNP colleagues in Glasgow to fight the Labour council’s plans to close schools across the city without full consultation and will work with colleagues across the country to prevent Labour’s £1 billion of cuts to Scotland’s budget – cuts that could have a serious affect on Glasgow.

“Most of all I am looking forward to getting to work to represent the people of Glasgow in Scotland’s Parliament.”
