SCOTTISH NATIONAL PARTY ANGER AT POST OFFICE PRIVATISATION PLANS.

SCOTTISH NATIONAL PARTY ANGER AT POST OFFICE PRIVATISATION PLANS. LORD PETER MANDELSON MUST NOT BY-PASS MPs.

SNP Postal Affairs spokesperson, Mike Weir MP, has rounded on Business Secretary Lord Mandelson over breaking news that controversial UK government proposals to sell off part of the Royal Mail are to be introduced in the House of Lords on Thursday. Mr Weir said: ”Lord Mandelson is on a collision course with his own party over privatisation plans, and it would be disgraceful if he is plotting to by-pass the Commons in an attempt to avoid embarrassment. ”The future of Royal Mail deliveries is of huge concern to communities across the country who fear for the future of the universal service obligation if the company is privatised. ”Privatisation of Royal Mail makes absolutely no sense. The Labour government are putting jobs at risk for the sake of bringing in a private company – currently competing with Royal Mail – into partnership. ”This is a matter of national importance which must be debated in the elected chamber, rather than the unelected Lords. ”Lord Mandelson may not like what MPs have to say, but he must not attempt to smother debate on this issue.”
