GORDON BROWN BLUNDERS ON SCOTLAND'S RUGBY WORLD CUP BID.

GORDON BROWN BLUNDERS ON SCOTLAND'S RUGBY WORLD CUP BID.

Commenting on a report in the Scotsman today (Thursday) where Gordon Brown indicates his support for England-Wales bid for the Rugby World Cup as opposed to the two other alternative bids that involved Scotland, Lothians SNP MSP Ian McKee – A member of the Scottish Parliament's Health & Sport Committee – said:

"It is astonishing that Gordon Brown has pronounced his support for the England Rugby Football Union's bid to co-host the 2015 World Cup with Wales when the Scottish Rugby Union are actively involved in discussions to co-host the tournament with England, Ireland and Wales.

"All the hard work of the SRU over the past year or so has been undermined by the Prime Minister's ill-judged intervention.

"The Prime Minister has an obligation to remain neutral if there are opposing bids involving the nations of the
British Isles, but it beggars belief that Gordon Brown, who represents a Scottish constituency, has endorsed an opposing bid to Scotland's joint bid.

"Not content with proclaiming Paul Gascoigne's goal against
Scotland in the 1996 European Championship as his favourite goal of all time, Brown's latest sporting blunder merely underlines his lack of judgement and willingness to work against Scotland's interests in a desperate attempt to stop haemorrhaging support in middle England."
