BANKER BONUSES EXPOSE LABOUR'S PHONEY FAIRNESS

BANKER BONUSES EXPOSE LABOUR'S PHONEY FAIRNESS

LABOUR POLITICIANS PROMISED ACTION OVER A YEAR AGO

Commenting on reports that the biggest nationalised banks in the UK
could be preparing to pay billions in bonuses amid multi-billion-pound
losses, SNP MSP Rob Gibson - a member of the Scottish Parliament'
Economy Committee - said it was an embarrassment for Labour
politicians as it exposed how phoney their election slogan was.

Mr Gibson also highlighted how London Labour politicians had been
promising action against bonuses by the nationalised banks over a year
ago but had failed to bring forward any proposals in time to avert the
current situation.

Commenting Mr Gibson said:

"Yet again Labour politicians' phoney words aren't matching reality.
This is looking like a future free-for-all for bankers. Where is the
fairness for the ordinary taxpayer here?

"It is embarrassing for Labour politicians and exposes the hollowness
of their election slogan.

"For well over a year they have been talking tough about bankers'
bonuses but this raises suspicions that they have little intention of
taking substantial action in time to forestall these bonuses.

"It just exposes Gordon Brown's attempts to present a phoney front on
fairness, and must raise questions about how serious he and the
Chancellor are about implementing their latest proposals.

"If an election is called before these proposals can be implemented
then it will finally confirm how phoney Labour's rhetoric on bankers'
bonuses really are."
