CAMERON SLAMMED ON HEALTH HYPOCRISY

CAMERON SLAMMED ON HEALTH HYPOCRISY

TORIES "EMPTY PLEDGES" EXPOSED.

Former GP Dr Ian McKee today condemned David Cameron's comments on the NHS as utterly hypocritical after his party voted against reducing the cost of prescription charges.

In his speech the Tory leader claimed treatment would be available "according to medical need not the ability to pay"

The Conservatives have repeatedly voted in the Scottish Parliament to restrict access to necessary prescriptions by rejecting the steps the SNP Government has taken to cut prescription charges.

Former GP and Lothians MSP Dr Ian McKee said:

"This is nothing but empty promises from the Tories and shows how little Cameron knows about his party in Scotland.

"At every turn the Tories have tried to punish the sick by keeping prescription charges high while the SNP has worked to reduce the cost and to abolish charges all together.

"While Cameron claims to back free healthcare his party in Holyrood are trying to put prescription charges up.

"Treatment must be based on need not ability to pay and that is why the SNP is determined to abolish prescription charges and ensure no one faces the choice between the cost of life and the cost of medicine.

"While the opposition fights a phoney war full of empty promises the SNP will continue to champion the needs of people across the country with a commitment to abolish prescription charges."
