LABOUR COUNCIL QUESTIONED OVER LAND DEALS

investigation revealed allegations of impropriety and that an official
faces corruption charges over land deals between the council and
developers.

Commenting on the story SNP MSP Jamie Hepburn who previously raised issues
around the sale of land at Palacerigg in North Lanarkshire with Audit
Scotland and Strathclyde Police said:

"These revelations show something has clearly been going wrong in one of
Labour's local authorities.

"For charges to be brought over the sale of council land is a very serious
issue.

"North Lanarkshire is a Labour council and Labour Councillors must now
answer questions as to how much they knew about this deal, and how
involved they were in the decisions to make this and other controversial
sales."

SNP Cllr Paul Delaney added:

"After being appointed to a committee set up to look at land disposals in
North Lanarkshire I have been concerned for some time that all was not as
it should have been.

"These charges must be followed by a thorough investigation into land
disposals in North Lanarkshire."
