HIGH SPEED RAIL LINK HITS TORY BUFFERS

HIGH SPEED RAIL LINK HITS TORY BUFFERS

ONLY SNP WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR SCOTLAND AT ELECTION

SNP MP Mike Weir has hit out at Tory backtracking after the Conservatives refused to commit to the development of a high speed rail link.

The Tories had previously refused to back a high speed link beyond Birmingham. They have now withdrawn support for the plan entirely amid fears of a voter backlash.

Commenting Mike Weir MP said:

"This is yet more evidence that the phoney war between the London parties has nothing to offer Scotland.

"The Tories have sidelined Scotland as they weigh up electoral advantage in the race to Number 10.

"A high speed rail link would revolutionise travel between Scotland and the rest of the UK - bringing considerable benefits to the Scottish economy and having a real environmental impact cutting the number of short haul flights.

"The SNP has long campaigned for a fast link to Scotland and the fickle Tories are putting the buffers on a plan that would bring significant opportunities.

"Only the SNP will champion better links to Scotland and the benefits they would bring to Scottish communities."
