COUNCIL TAX FREEZE AGREED ACROSS THE COUNTRY

COUNCIL TAX FREEZE AGREED ACROSS THE COUNTRY

29 Councils have agreed to freeze their council tax for the coming year.

The final three local authorities (Angus, Shetland and Eilean Siar) will make their decision next week.

The council tax freeze is fully funded by the SNP in Government, ensuring councils can continue to invest whilst giving hard working households a break from high bills during the recession.

Welcoming the news that 29 local authorities had agreed to a freeze SNP MSP and Finance Committee member Joe FitzPatrick said:

"Hard pressed households across Scotland will welcome the news that councils across the country are to freeze the council tax.

"The SNP knows that as Scotland works its way out of recession families will welcome the extra pounds in their pocket. That is why we committed to freeze the council tax and give people a helping hand after years of rising bills under Labour.

"It is very clear that Labour, Tories and Lib Dems would all see council tax bills increased in Scotland despite promising a freeze in parts of England.

"While we are all having to tighten our belts as a result of Labour's disastrous decision to slash over £800 million from the Scottish budget I welcome the decision of local authorities to support the SNP's efforts to help households across Scotland through the tough times by agreeing to the council tax freeze."
