MacASKILL TO SLAM BIGOTRY AT ANTI-RACISM MARCH

MacASKILL TO SLAM BIGOTRY AT ANTI-RACISM MARCH

Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill will join speakers from across all parties at a march and rally in Edinburgh today (Saturday) by Scotland United. The event has been organised to highlight the strength of feeling against the bigotry expressed by a Scottish Defence League march which will also be held in Edinburgh today.

Commenting before today's march and rally, Edinburgh East and Musselburgh MSP Mr MacAskill said:

“This capital has a proud record of being open to all, and racism has no place here or in modern society. The vast majority of people in Scotland embrace equality, diversity and the idea of a one Scotland, many cultures.

"Scotland is not only a nation of immigrants but also a nation of emigrants. Wherever we went in the world we were almost uniformly treated with dignity, compassion and respect. As a nation we should extend those same values to all who make Scotland their home.

"Today is about making a stand against those who would seek to divide and saying to them that their views are not welcome, as well as showing to the world that Scotland will not tolerate such views."
