GLASGOW DESERVES BETTER FROM SPT

GLASGOW DESERVES BETTER FROM SPT

The SNP today called for a real fresh start for SPT and a new focus on
providing top quality public transport in tough times after the Chief
Executive became the second figure to resign from the organisation over
expenses allegations.

Commenting SNP Cllr Graeme Hendry who worked to expose the culture of
excess within SPT said:

"Shuffling the deckchairs at SPT will not deliver the services the people
of Glasgow and Strathclyde need.

"There is clearly panic within SPT and Glasgow Labour as people move to
get out of the firing line.

"Simply taking one Labour Councillor out and putting in another is not
real reform of what is clearly an organisation with a dysfunctional
leadership.

"If Alistair Watson and Ron Culley have had to go there are real questions
over how Cllr MacLachlan can remain on the board and what more may be
hidden behind the doors of SPT.

"Cllr MacLachlan must tell the people of South Lanarkshire what his
£17,000 of mileage claims were for -just as SPT must explain what benefit
Glasgow's travelling public have felt from their lavish trip to the UEFA
cup football.

"With questions unanswered over these expenses it is time for a thorough
independent examination of SPT, of their books, their practices and the
services they are delivering to the people of Glasgow."
