LABOUR'S CABINET CAMPAIGNING TOUR 'DEEPLY CYNICAL'

LABOUR'S CABINET CAMPAIGNING TOUR 'DEEPLY CYNICAL'

Commenting on reports that UK Government Ministers used a Cabinet Tour of
the North East of England to undertake campaigning on behalf of the Labour
Party, SNP General Election Coordinator Stewart Hosie MP said:

"This is a deeply cynical move by senior Labour politicians who are
abusing their position in a desperate bid to cling onto power.

"Cabinet tours should be about getting out in communities and hearing
local concerns - not an excuse for Labour Party campaigning and meeting
party officials.

"This is yet another example of London politicians serving themselves when
they should be serving the country. It is no wonder people are rejecting
the traditional parties and putting their faith in local champions for
their communities.

"Scotland's SNP Government has been touring the country for the last two
summers meeting the public and discussing issues affecting each local area
as well as the country as a whole.

"Not only that but the entire summer tour for the Scottish Government cost
less than one UK Government visit to Southhampton and 5 times less for the
Scottish Government to meet in Glasgow and host a series of public events
than the private meeting of the UK Cabinet.

"The difference is clear- while the Labour Cabinet are putting their own
interests first, the SNP are are meeting with and championing their local
communities."
