EU CHILD ALERT BACKED BY SNP MEPS.

EU CHILD ALERT BACKED BY SNP MEPS.

Ahead of a Scottish Parliament debate on a European Missing Child alert
system to mark International Missing Childrens Day SNP MEPs highlighted
their support for the establishment of a missing child alert system across
the EU.

The European Parliament Written Declaration last year, backed by both SNP
MEPs, called for Member states to set up a missing child alert system
which when activated, would require the immediate forwarding to the
relevant news media, border authorities and customs and law enforcement
agencies of the child's details, any information on the disappearance and
suspected abductor and a telephone number to contact with information.

Commenting ahead of the debate SNP MEP Alyn Smith said;

"SNP MEPs support a European missing child alert system alongside MEPs
from other parties and other countries.

"There is cross party support in the European Parliament for greater
co-operation across countries when it comes to tracking down missing
children.

"It is by working across parties and with other nations that we can ensure
all necessary resources can be brought into play when a child goes
missing.

"The Scottish Government are already working together with partners across
the EU to strengthen co-operation in this area and International Missing
Childrens Day is an excellent opportunity to highlight this co-operation
as we move forward together to secure a safer scotland and a safer
Europe."
