SNP GO ONLINE FOR EURO YOUTH VOTE.

SNP GO ONLINE FOR EURO YOUTH VOTE.

'SCOTLAND'S YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE WHAT IT TAKES'

The SNP will today (Saturday) target Scotland's young voters as the SNP's
youth manifesto goes online.

The SNP is taking the innovative step of launching our youth manifesto
through Facebook and Bebo - making the SNP the first party to launch online.

Designed by the SNP's youth and student organisations, the Federation of
Student Nationalists and Young Scots for Independence, the manifesto calls
on young Scots to vote for a strong voice in Europe, for job opportunities
in new green industries and for a real voice on international issues
bringing an end to nuclear weapons and supporting genuine international
development.

Commenting, SNP MEP Alyn Smith - Scotland's youngest MEP said:

"Only the SNP speak for young Scots in Europe and by going online we want to
speak to as many young Scots as we can.

"The internet is no substitute for face to face contact but Facebook offers
voters a real opportunity from Shetland to Selkirk to engage with SNP
candidates wherever we may be.

"The SNP is standing for jobs and recovery in this election. We are the
only party that will give Scotland's young people a strong voice in Europe's
economic future with our commitment to 16,000 jobs in green energy over the
next ten years.

"Young people should have a strong voice in Europe and the SNP is the only
party to offer that voice. That is why the SNP is committed to votes for
those over 16 years old and our MEPs will campaign for this in the European
Parliament."

Since being elected in 2005, Alyn Smith has run the Allan Macartney
internship programme which has encouraged bright young Scots to consider
careers in Europe.

David McDonald, Convenor of the YSI, added:

"Being part of the European Union presents huge opportunities for young
people in Scotland.

"Through schemes such as ERASMUS, Scottish university students have been
offered the chance to study at the best European universities and learn new
languages which boost their chances of securing good jobs on graduation.

"The SNP are committed to ensuring these opportunities continue. Over the
past two years, the Scottish Government has invested more than £110 000 in
European student exchanges.

"Scotland's young people have what it takes to succeed in Europe - and a
vote for the SNP at the European election is a vote to ensure these
opportunities continue."
