SNP ANNIVERSARY FOCUSES ON JOBS AS BROWN'S LABOUR DISINTEGRATE.
SNP WORKING FOR SCOTLAND AS BROWN'S BAD WEEK CONTINUES TO GO ON AND ON.
As the SNP focus on protecting and creating jobs in the face of recession,
the SNP’s Westminster Leader Angus Robertson highlighted how this work
contrasted with the collapse of Gordon Brown’s Labour party.
Mr Robertson described the past week as ‘the worst of Brown’s beleaguered
premiership’ which started with figures showing a big poll boost for the
SNP and how the governing party of Scotland was trusted with the economy.
Today (May 3rd) marks the 2nd anniversary of the SNP’s success in the 2007
Scottish elections which saw Labour lose power in Scotland for the first
time. In contrast the headlines for Gordon Brown’s Labour could not be
worse after an already appalling week.
Today’s Sunday papers report:
* Labour MPs giving Brown five weeks to turn around party fortunes or face
a leadership challenge
* Former Cabinet Minister Stephen Byers planning a vote of co confidence
in Gordon Brown
* Cabinet Hazel Blears describing the Labour government’s 'lamentable'
failures
* Former Home Secretary Charles Clarke demanding that Ed Balls be sacked
* Revelations of Gordon Brown throwing a tantrum during TV interviews
* David Miliband apparently wasting hundreds of thousands of taxpayers
money on a private jet
Commenting, Mr Robertson said:
“People want action on jobs and recovery and to see politicians working to
get through these tough times, not squabbling within their own party and
stabbing each other in the back as today’s papers starkly show.
“That’s why as we mark the second anniversary of the SNP’s success in the
2007 elections we are focussed on meeting the needs and aspirations of
people across Scotland, delivering jobs and prospects for the future.
“At a time when strong leadership is needed, polls show Scots are turning
to the SNP and Alex Salmond for that leadership on the economy while
Gordon Brown and his Labour party have lost all credibility.
“This must not only be the worst week of Gordon Brown’s beleaguered
premiership but perhaps his worst Sunday. It started with the fantastic
poll results showing the SNP soaring over Labour and is ending with open
mutiny on the Labour benches and talk of defections, resignations and
votes of no confidence.
“With five weeks to go until the European elections, the SNP have what it
takes to give the people of Scotland a strong voice in Europe, to protect
jobs and to work for recovery while from the Downing Street bunker Gordon
Brown is watching the Labour party fall apart.”
