PM BROWN BLUNDERS OVER SPENDING CUTS AGAIN.

PM BROWN BLUNDERS OVER SPENDING CUTS AGAIN.

DOWNING STREET DOUBLE STANDARDS ON BUDGET REALITY.

The prime minister has been accused of double standards today (Wednesday) after claiming at PMQs that “you have to grow not cut your way out of a recession”.

Gordon Brown’s claim, echoed from a Labour party political broadcast screened last night, claimed voters had a choice “between Labour plans to grow Britain out of recession or the alternative: public service cuts for everyone at the worst possible time.”

In fact, the Scottish Government faces a real terms cut to its Budget of £500m from 20010/11.

Mr Robertson said:

“I don’t know how Gordon Brown can keep a straight face. We all know you have to grow not cut your way out of a recession – so why is Labour slashing public investment in Scotland?

“This boomerang blunder exposes the double standards of the Prime Minister’s position.

“Now that Gordon Brown has confirmed that cutting public spending is the wrong thing to do, he must acknowledge the reality of his party’s damaging cuts agenda.

“Labour are planning to raid Scotland’s health, education and housing budgets by forcing the first real terms cut in Scotland’s public expenditure since the Tories in the 1990s.

“The Prime Minister’s blunder demonstrates exactly why Scotland needs to be responsible for all of our own resources, with an independent Scottish Parliament controlling all revenue and spending in Scotland.”
