LOTHIANS MSP COMMENTS ON RBS JOB LOSSES.

LOTHIANS MSP COMMENTS ON RBS JOB LOSSES.

Lothians MSP Shirley-Anne Somerville expressed her concern at the news that 700 jobs are to be lost across RBS technology services. The vast majority of the job losses are expected to be split between the company's two main centres for technology services, in Edinburgh and London.

Ms Somerville said:

"Today's confirmation of job losses in technology services will be a devastating blow for the staff in Edinburgh who have been living in fear for their jobs for a while now.

"All efforts must be made to minimise compulsory redundancies and redeploy staff wherever possible. RBS, the unions and the Scottish Government must work together to offer tailored help and support for all those affected."

"It's a very difficult time in financial services but I hope Edinburgh's strong reputation and skills base will ensure new job opportunities emerge."
