WE’VE GOT WHAT IT TAKES TO BUILD A GREEN ENERGY FUTURE.
RENEWABLES POTENTIAL WILL BOOST JOBS
SNP MSP Rob Gibson - a member of the Scottish Parliament's Economy & Energy Committee - has welcomed a report today which shows the jobs potential from investment in the energy and renewables sector and can make a significant contribution to Scotland’s economic recovery
The Scottish Government's Key Sector Report on Energy shows that:
* At least 3,000 jobs in Scotland are in renewables with the prospect of at least 16,000 new jobs over the next 10 years
* Scotland will gain around 10,000 jobs in the development and deployment of clean fossil fuels and carbon capture
* Employment in the non- renewables energy sector is 40,700 in Scotland - 23% of Great Britain’s energy sector total
* That Scotland is an exporter of energy with an average of 17% of our electricity exported between 2000 and 2007
Commenting on today’s publication Mr Gibson said:
“Scotland has what it takes to lead the way in creating jobs in clean, green energy; and the SNP is leading the way on their creation.
“The renewables revolution supports not just our energy needs, but can provide thousands of green jobs across Scotland as this report shows.
“With the right skills, education and investment we can fulfil our potential to be the Saudi Arabia of off shore renewable energy.
“Labour’s nuclear rhetoric will not benefit Scotland’s future. Our success in promoting new technology, supporting new ideas and building the infrastructure we need to capitalise on our immense renewable assets is what Scotland needs for a bright future.
“We’ve got what it takes to succeed in Europe and to win a green energy future for Scotland.”
