TIMES POPULUS POLL SHOWS SCOTLAND MOVING FORWARD.

TIMES POPULUS POLL SHOWS SCOTLAND MOVING FORWARD.

Welcoming the Times Populus poll which shows a majority of Scots see
devolution as having brought benefits for Scotland and that two thirds of Scots want independence or more powers Deputy First Minister and Depute SNP Leader Nicola Sturgeon said:

“This is a resounding endorsement of the success of the Scottish Parliament, and the improvements it has delivered to Scotland’s economy and society. For example, 10 years ago unemployment in Scotland was 25 per cent higher than in the UK as a whole – it is now 25 per cent lower than the UK average, and even in these tough times lower than in 1999. “With two-thirds of Scots wanting independence or more powers, it is clear that the people of Scotland want to keep moving forward – so that the Parliament has the ability to deliver more – and that is also very encouraging.

The SNP want an equal partnership between Scotland and
England – a social union of independent nations, with the Queen as our shared head of state: in effect united kingdoms rather than the United Kingdom. We believe that the people of Scotland will rally to that positive position, which is why we also want people to have the opportunity to choose independence in a referendum in 2010. Unlike the London-based parties, we have the courage of our convictions as we move into the second decade of Scottish self-government.”
