MSPs URGE TRUST MEMBERS TO PUSH FOR CONSULTATION ON JOBS.

TOGETHER MEMBERS HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO PROTECT JOBS

Commenting on today’s report in the Herald concerning the budget of the National Trust of Scotland (NTS) SNP MSPs Rob Gibson and Christina McKelvie have said the Trust must consult all its members on proposed closures and job losses before making any decision.

Mr Gibson, a member of the Scottish Parliament’s Economy & Tourism Committee who has raised the issue with the Minister responsible for historic buildings, said:

“There are serious concerns from both staff and ordinary trust members about the way NTS is being run. This report about proposed job losses and closures is concerning considering the present economic climate and I question what the present board is doing.

“Before they proceed with any redundancies or closures they must consult the ordinary trust members. If the current management don't do that then ordinary members can take the opportunity at an AGM or EGM to ensure there is a leadership that will.”
Central Scotland SNP MSP Christina McKelvie, who has been campaigning on NTS plans to withdraw from the David Livingstone Centre in Blantyre has been urging trust members to push for an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to have a say on Board’s plans.

She said:

“I would urge anyone who holds membership of the National Trust for Scotland and who is concerned about the threat to the present NTS properties to download an EGM form from In Trust for Scotland’s website and return it today.

“I know that many National Trust members have been upset to hear that the future of important parts of Scotland’s cultural and historical heritage, such as the David Livingstone Centre, is under threat.

“An EGM would be their chance to ensure that the Board’s decision is at the very least properly debated and the strength of members’ feeling taken into account.”
