ROBERTSON COMMENTS ON GURKHAS SITUATION.

ROBERTSON COMMENTS ON GURKHAS SITUATION.

DISGRACEFUL WAY TO TREAT VETERANS

Commenting on the latest developments in the campaign to secure rights of residency for Gurkha veterans, SNP Westminster leader and Defence spokesperson, Angus Robertson MP, accused the government of adding insult to injury after veterans were issued with letters of rejection.

Mr Robertson said:

“Gordon Brown said he was going to take personal charge in sorting this out, and the next day we have complete confusion and chaos.

“This is a disgraceful way to treat people who have served this country, and for the UK government to send out these letters adds insult to injury.

“Parliament voted to grant the Gurkhas residency, Gordon Brown said he would find a solution, and then veterans receive letters rejecting their rights to stay. This is an absolute shambles.

“Gordon Brown’s leadership and authority is fast unravelling, and he needs to get a grip on this situation and honour the decision taken by parliament on the Gurkhas status.”
